Interview with Ambassador Anidebe Edwin Prince

Q: Tell us a bit about your journey—how did you find your way into the world of theatre, and what drives your art?

In a world where values are often misaligned, my purpose is to use my platform to educate people with clarity and integrity. That’s why I call myself the “Truth Messenger”—it’s about sharing “The Right Understanding To Have” and inspiring a deeper connection with truth and morality through art.

Q: What inspired the piece you are showcasing at the Lagos Fringe? Is there a personal or cultural story behind it that you’d like to share with our audience?

The inspiration for Keys comes from my own life experiences. Growing up, I saw the impact of conflict on family dynamics. As a mental health counsellor, I’ve spent years working with couples, helping them address marital and relationship challenges. This play is the culmination of five years of insights and guidance aimed at equipping the next generation with the tools for meaningful, lasting relationships.

Q: How has the creative process been for this project? Were there any unique challenges or memorable moments you experienced while bringing it to life?

It’s been a blend of challenges, stress, and excitement. One of the most fulfilling moments is when the entire cast moves in sync, each bringing an interpretation that perfectly aligns. Those are the moments we cherish.

Q: In what ways do you feel festivals like the Lagos Fringe are essential for the creative economy and the arts scene in Nigeria?

Festivals like the Lagos Fringe are vital—they provide a space for artists to showcase their talents and connect with audiences
who appreciate creativity and culture. It’s a supportive platform for those with something meaningful to share.

Q: What does it mean to you to present your work at Lagos Fringe, and what are you most excited for audiences to experience?

It’s a privilege to return to the Fringe. For the past two years, I have loved seeing audiences resonate with the message of my plays. My greatest joy is when the audience leaves with a full understanding of the message, feeling inspired by the truth shared through the performance.
